Joseph Smith...

Was tarred and feathered in 1832 for making sexual advances to a seventeen-year-old girl.

Had been found guilty of...

Disorderly Conduct, and being an Impostor.

And charged with:

Treason, Plotting to Murder, Bribary and Violating the First Amendment of the Constitution.

He did not die as a martyr, but in a gun battle while he was in jail on the second floor in Carthage Illinois with other Mormon leaders. Smith killed at least two before he was shot to death (History of the Church, Vol. 7, pp. 100-103). (A martyr doesn't offer resistance) (See Stephen's death, Acts 7:54-60.)

Drank wine and beer.

(see ‘History of the Church’, Vol. 2, p. 369; Vol. 6, p. 616 and ‘Millennial Star,’ Vol. 23, p. 720).

Was a false prophet.

"On the 14th of Feb. 1835, Joseph Smith uaid [said] that God had revealed to him that the coming of Christ would be within 56 years, which added to 1835 shows that before 1891 and the 14th of Feb. the Savior of the world would make his appearance again upon the earth and the winding up scene take place" (Journal of Oliver Boardman Huntington, Vol. 2, pp. 128,129).

And:

On April 17, 1838, Joseph prophesied that David W. Patten would perform a mission for him the next Spring (Doc. & Cov. 114:1). However, David Patten died before Spring came! See History of the Church, Vol. 3, p. 171, 10-25-38.

And:

Said the moon's inhabitants were of uniform height (about 6 ft. tall), dressed like Quakers and lived nearly 1,000 years (Journal of Oliver B. Huntington, Vol. 3, p. 166 of typed copy at Utah State Historical Society and The Young Woman's Journal, pub. by the Young Ladies'Mutual Improvement Associations of Zion, 1892, Vol. 3, pp. 263,264.)

Was a proud and boastful man.

"I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet" (History of the Church, Vol. 6, pp. 408, 409).

COMMENT: "God resisteth the proud" (1 Pet. 5:5).

Contradicted the Book of Mormon.

In Moroni 8:18 we read:

"We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity, I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith, p.345).

Joseph Smith:

Preached “another gospel”. (ie Who will you believe?)

Smith said:

"Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness ..." (Doc. & Cov. 132:37).

Paul, James and Moses said:

Abraham became righteous because he believed God! (see Gal. 1:8,9 3:6; Rom. 4:3; James 2:23 and Gen. 15:6.)

Showed the golden plates to:

Martin Harris

A man who claimed he had visited the moon.

(see Doc & Cov 3:12, 13 and 10:6, 7 and ‘The Story of the Mormons’, New York 1902, p35.)

Oliver Cowdery

An attempted counterfeiter and a thief.

(see ‘A History of the Latter-day Saints in Northern Missouri From 1836 to 1839’, p146 and a letter quoted in Senate Document 189, Feb 15, 1841, pp6-9.)

David Whitmer

Likened unto a "dumb ass" by Joseph Smith for saying that the heads of the church had gone deep into error and blindness. (see ‘History of the Church’, Vol. 3, p. 228 and ‘An Address to all Believers in Christ’, by David Whitmer, 1887, pp. 27,28.)

All three were apostatised. (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, pp. 114, 115).

The Book of Mormon:

Contains False prophecy.

We read in 2 Nephi 3:14

“And thus prophesied Joseph, saying: Behold, that seer will the Lord bless; and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded . . .” yet history records that Joseph Smith was shot.

And in 2 Nephi 10:7 we read oncerning the Jews

“ . . .When the day cometh that they shall believe in me, that I am Christ, then have I covenanted with their fathers that they shall be restored in the flesh, upon the earth unto the lands of their inheritance.” Yet today the Jews have returned to the ‘land of their inheritance’ and still do not believe in Christ.”

Contradicts Doctrine and Covenants.

We read in Doc. & Cov. 132:1 that David and Solomon were justified because of polygamy:

“Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand where-in I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines.”

Yet Jacob 2:24 reads:

"Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord,"

And Jacob 2:27 reads:

“Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;”

Refutes the Mormon Doctorine.

The Mormon Doctrine teaches there are three gods (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

Yet Alma 11:44 reads:

“. . . but everything shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God . . .”

Has been wrongly labled the “most correct book on earth”.

In Nephi 4:9 (approx 600 B.C.), we read:

“ . . . and the workmanship thereof was exceedingly fine and I saw that the blade thereof was of the most precious steel.”

And in Alma 18:9 (approx 420 A.D.) we read:

“And they said unto him: Behold, he is feeding thy horses. Now the king had commanded his servants, previous to the time of the watering of their flocks, that they should prepare his horses and chariots . . .”

Yet the Smithsonian Institution's Dept. Of Anthropology declares that:

The Americas did not have steel or horses before 1492 and Gordon H. Fraser, anthropologist and ethnologist, agrees with the Smithsonian Institution and adds that copper (Mosiah 8:10) was unknown at that early date.

And there has already been 3,913 changes from the original 1830 edition.

Everlasting Mormon doctrines:

Have been abandoned by the present church but were proclaimed by the reigining prophet to be:

The Word of God

Eternal

Everlasting

Fundamental

Essential

To goven the church forevermore.

The Adam-God doctrine.

Adam is God the Father.

The United Order

All property of church members is to be hald in common with title in the church.

Plural Marriage.

A man must have more than one wife to attain the highest degree of heaven.

The Curse of Cain.

The black race is not eneitled to hold God’s priesthood because it is cursed.. (This doctrine was not abandoned until 1978.)

Blood Atonement.

Sins such as apostacy, adultery, murder, interracial marriage must be atoned for by the shedding of the sinner’s blood, preferably by someone appointed to do so by church authorities.

Whether we feel that the church was correct in abandoning these doctrines is not the point; rather the point is that a church claiming to be the church of God takes one everlasting position at one time and the opposite position at another, all the time claiming to be proclaiming the word of God.
